In this article, I will try to provide you with a step-by-step tutorial on how to generate alt text for your website’s images automatically with AI. I will also explain why it is important to have descriptive alt text for your images in the WordPress media library. For the tutorial, I will be using my tool Imagerr AI, which can accomplish this. Step-by-Step Tutorial on How to Create Alt Text for Your WordPress Website

Below I will try to guide you through the complete process on how to install the Imagerr AI WordPress plugin and how to use it.

1. Install the WordPress Plugin

In your WordPress admin panel on your website, navigate to Plugins > Add New Plugin and search for “Imagerr AI.” Then click the “Install Now” button. After that, click “Activate” to activate the plugin.

 

 

2. Start Free Trial

Register with your email on imagerr.ai/register-user. After that, log into your Imagerr account and copy your API key by clicking on the green “Copy” button.

 

 

Now go to Imagerr AI > Settings in your WordPress dashboard and paste your API key into the “API Key” field. After that, click the “Save Settings” button at the bottom.

Small note: It can sometimes take up to 5 minutes for the API key to work. So please just be patient, and give it a few minutes if it doesn’t work for you instantly.

 

 

3. Purchase a Credits Package

If you have decided to buy a credits package, simply go to imagerr.ai/#pricing and choose a plan that would fit your needs. Then just make the payment. Remember that when you run out of your credits, you can purchase another credits pack anytime.

Please note that it can sometimes take a few moments for the credits to start showing up in your account.

4. Set the Plugin Settings

When you navigate to Imagerr AI > Settings in your WordPress dashboard, you will see there some settings for the plugin, like, for example, meta prefix & suffix, auto generate on upload, generate title, caption, description, and the language for your alt text (it should be pre-selected automatically based on your WordPress website’s main language). Also, more features may be added here in the future.

5. Use on One Image

If you want to use the plugin on just one or two particular images in your WordPress media library, simply just open that particular image and click the blue button “Update with Imagerr”. And that’s it.

 

 

6. Use on Several Selected Images

In case you wish to generate the alt text for just a number of hand-picked images from your media library, simply just bulk select the appropriate images in your WordPress media library, and after that click the “Generate Alt text” button. Or just choose “Generate Alt text” from the Bulk actions drop-down for your selected images in the grid view of your media library.

7. Auto-generate on Upload

If you want to have the alt text (and the title, caption, and description as well) generated automatically for your WordPress media library images right when they are uploaded, there is an option for this too. Just tick the “Auto Generate on Upload” option in the plugin’s settings.

 

 

8. Bulk Generator

This feature of the plugin is used when you have many images without alt text on them. Or when you might have alt text too but want to change or update it. To use it, simply go to Imagerr AI > Bulk Generator and click the “Update Meta” button to run it.

The option “Replace on posts” ensures that the alt text gets added to your WordPress blog posts’ or pages’ HTML code on which you have your images placed.

 

 

Please note that if you have thousands of images, the image alt text bulk generation process can take even several hours.
